Job Summary
The Grounds Laborer works with the grounds department led by the Grounds Manager. The Grounds Division plays a pivotal role in the successful execution of grounds duties within the organization’s managed portfolio of market-rate multifamily properties in the Twin Cities. The grounds are the first thing tenants or perspective tenants see before entering the building; that is why we pride ourselves in maintaining that all of our properties remain beautiful and eye-catching!
Responsibilities and Duties
This role is responsible for maintenance and improvements of grounds at all managed locations. The duties may include but are not limited to:
- Turf restoration
- Removing and installing mulch and/or rock
- Building grounds inspections
- Sweeping and striping parking lots
- Planting shrubs, flowers, and trees
- Trimming small trees, and shrubs
- Removing unwanted dead trees or plants
- Installing, repairing, and winterizing irrigation
- Installing and repairing downspouts
- Purchasing and repairing equipment (lawnmowers, weed trimmers, snow blowers, etc.)
- Maintaining machines, tools, trucks, and trailers
- Delivering sidewalk salt
- Assisting in snow and ice management
- Installing and removing concrete
- Installing and repairing fences
- Installing drainage systems
- Delegating tasks and overseeing the use of tools and equipment
- Assisting other departments when necessary
Qualification and Skills
For our Lead Grounds Technician to be successful, you will need to delegate and follow tasks, be a dedicated team-member, and have excellent communication skills. This is a physically demanding role where occasionally lifting more than 50 lbs will be needed. The Grounds Division works in all weather conditions including: heat, snow, and rain. The Lead Grounds Technician will oversee equipment operation, and ensure that the tools under your charge are well-maintained. The Lead Grounds Technician will also be responsible for training the crew of grounds keepers with their tasks.
The specific skills preferred for this role include:
- Physical stamina
- Self-starter
- Experience in a leadership role would be advantageous
- Ability to provide clear written and verbal instructions
- Ability to work with Microsoft Excel and Word
- Attention to detail
- Organization of multiple projects
- Knowledge of landscaping tools and equipment
- Ability to operate forklift and skid steer
- Ability to obtain a DOT health card
Compensation
This role pays $15 – $20/hour, depending on experience.
